Recent financial incentives i.e. a bonus certificate to be paid for a second child and an increased child benefit have failed to impress every Russian woman of childbearing age.

American Family Adopted Four Russian Sisters

The Simmons family has adopted two teenage Russian girls: 15-year-old Svieta and 14-year-old Natasha to unite the whole family of four girls from the Russian city of Vladivostok, the Associated Press news agency reported on November 1.

The teenagers arrived at their new home near Park City this week. The Simmons had adopted their 4-year-old and 6-year-old sisters lately and four siblings had never met before because the older girls were removed from their home in Vladivostok before the younger ones were born. The fifth sister is mentally disable and lives in one of the Russian institutions.

“This was not about saving the world. It was about keeping biological siblings together.” John Simmons said.

The parents are learning Russian because their new daughters don’t speak much English. Meanwhile the total number of Russian kids in the family is 5 including a Russian boy who is not related to the sisters.

“Hug Me!” Flashmob in Moscow Downtown

“Hug Me!” Flashmob in Moscow Downtown

Moscow’s most famous Arbat street was Sunday flooded with hundreds of happy young people embracing each other and the amazed passers-by as the the hippy-style “Hug Me!” flashmob took place.Participants of the flashmob were told to arrive at the beginning of the street at a certain time carrying a sheet of paper saying “Hug Me!” The aim of the action was to brighten up rainy Russian autumn, organizers said.

Participants were warned not to hug anybody who would seem to mind it, and bring IDs with them, but the action went exactly as planned and without any accidents.

“I thought I would just go and have a look,” one of the participants said afterwards on her personal weblog.

“But then I saw that crowd of boys and girls, all smiling, I realized I could not miss it.”

“I think I was hugged by some 250-300 people!” another participant said.

“And I returned each of the hugs. It was amazing to just hug everybody, people you don’t know at all, give your joy to people.”
