December 19, 2006Syrian President Bashar Assad is to visit Russia next week to discuss the situation in the region, primarily Iraq, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, as well as bilateral issues, Syrian Vice President Farouk al-Sharaa told Russian journalists in Damascus on Wednesday.
“Russia is an increasingly important country for us. Its role is important. Our region is placing high hopes on Russia, given its geopolitical location,” he said.
