The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today released its evaluation report on the 2014 Olympic Winter Games prepared by the IOC’s Evaluation Commission.

The report calls “excellent” the concepts proposed by PyeongChang and Salzburg. The Sochi plan is called “a very good” one.

Meanwhile, Russian officials are still optimistic. Russian Economic Development Minister German Gref calls the IOC report “quite a positive one.”

The IOC commission noted “offers a convenient and compact venue concept for all ice sports” in Sochi including the transport infrastructure. It is stressed tin the report that the Sochi bid for the Winter Olympics was supported at the top level in Russia and approved by majority of the regional population.

The Evaluation Commission visited PyeongChang on February 14-17, Sochi on February 20-23 and Salzburg on March 14-17.

The commission’s report on readiness of the three candidate cities to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2014 will be presented at 119th IOC session in Guatemala on July 4-9.
