Russia to Develop Economic Cooperation with Mozambique
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said a working visit to Moscow of Mozambiquean Foreign Minister Alcinda Antonia Abreu would be useful for the consolidation of bilateral cooperation in the international arena.
“This visit is a testimony of interest of Mozambique’s leadership in the consolidation of the relations with Russia. Our countries are time-tested partners. We cooperate within the framework of African organisations,†Lavrov said after his talks wit Abreu on Friday.
Russia is going to develop economic cooperation with Mozambique, he said.
“Russia and Mozambique have formed a solid foundation of relations. At present, the task is to add an economic foundation to the close bilateral relations. Trade is growing at a fast tempo, and we will support this tendency. A number of Russian companies have found partners in Mozambique for the development of joint projects in the field of energy and natural resources,†Lavrov said.
He also said that a number of Mozambiquean students in Russian universities had increased.
“This fact indicates the broadening of humanitarian cooperation between our countries. Our law enforcement agencies also cooperate, which helps the struggle against terrorism and organised crime.â€
“Russia actively participates in the solution of the tasks that were set in the UN by the G8 for improvement of the situation on the African continent, in particular the write-off of the debt and preparation of peacekeepers. Mozambique directly benefits from this,†Lavrov said.
Abreu said “Mozambique is interested in stability and security in the whole word, but overcoming poverty is one of crucial issuesâ€.
She said Mozambique valued the Russian government’s support in the spheres of medicine, energy, education and the development of natural resources.
