63% of Russians questioned in a survey did not see television broadcasts of the latest Eurovision song contest in Helsinki this month.

Eurovision contests are most popular among younger Russians (49% of those who saw the TV program), people with a higher education (45%), people with relatively high incomes (41%), and Muscovites (42%), the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) said in reporting its survey, which spanned 44 of Russia’s 86 regions and was conducted on May 19-20.

FOM said 25% of the respondents who saw Eurovision’s televised coverage liked the contest and 8% did not.

The report said 24% of those questioned liked the performance of Russian group Serebro and 7% did not.

More Russians liked Russian singer Dima Bilan’s performance at Eurovision 2006 than the way did at this year’s contest.

The survey also suggests 15% of Russians believe voting at Eurovision was unfair, that 11% consider it fair, and that 10% are undecided.

FOM questioned 1,500 people.
