Alitalia Strike Suits Russian Aeroflot Well
“One of major risks in buying Alitalia are powerful trade unions that in case of any discontent stage a strike that paralyzes work of the company and the airport,†Aviaport Agency analyst Oleg Panteleyev said in an interview.
According to Regnum news agency reported earlier, on May 22, Aeroflot canceled its flights from Sheremetyevo to Italy because of the Alitalia Airlines strike. Earlier in May, it was reported that Aeroflot was one of major competitors for buying Alitalia.
“A team of outside managers will find it easier to cope with the trade unions,†the analyst continued.
“There is a clear understanding that without extraordinary measures none of the company’s owners would be able to bring it out of the crisis. The measures include reduction of the stuff and some other restrictions. Aeroflot has a positive experience of HR relations in Russia. Bur, anyway, the personnel issue will be the main one in attempts to revive the company,†Panteleyev supposes.
“As for today’s strike, it will hardly repeat frequently. The current expansion of air routes allows bringing passengers to Italy by other ways. Evidently, the current strike suits Aeroflot well, as it allows beating down the price for Alitalia shares seriously and objectively,†the analyst concluded.
