Russia’s No. 1 Goalkeeper Out for Months With Ligament Injury
Russia’s number one goalkeeper Igor Akinfeyev will be out of action for months after tearing knee ligaments in CSKA Moscow’s premier league match at Rostov.
“I’m just in shock. I don’t want to say any more at this point,” Akinfeyev, 21, was quoted as saying by Russian media on Monday.
CSKA Moscow tied Rostov 1-1.
Akinfeyev will miss most of Russia’s Euro 2008 Group E qualifiers this year, including key home and away matches against England in September and October.
