Russia to Build First Floating Nuclear Power Plant by 2010
The first floating nuclear power plant in Russia will be commissioned in 2010, First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said at a Monday meeting of the government chaired by President Vladimir Putin.
“We are starting the construction of floating nuclear power plants. The first one will be commissioned by 2010 and supply electricity to all of Severodvinsk,” he said.
“Construction of seven power plants of the kind for the Extreme North and the Far East are planned,” Ivanov said.
Rosenergoatom is also planning to build a fleet of seven autonomous thermal power plants by 2015, in addition to the floating nuclear power plant.
Russian gas giant Gazprom displayed considerable interests in floating nuclear power plants, as it needs at least five floating power units to develop new deposits.
