A district court in Moscow has sentenced two elevator mechanics to two years in prison colony each after an 8-year-old boy had been strangled by elevator doors in a high-rise apartment block, the Gazeta.ru online daily reported on Wednesday.

Both mechanics were arrested in the court hall. State prosecutor demanded 4 years of imprisonment for the convicts, but the judge ruled differently.

In March 2006 an 8-year old boy was exiting the elevator when the doors suddenly shut, jamming the child’s neck and strangling him. The dead body was found by neighbors.
