Fire in Moscow Nightclub Kills 10
At least ten people were killed and four others suffered injuries in a blaze at a nightclub in Moscow, the Interfax news agency reported on Sunday.
The fire broke out at about 3:10 a.m., Moscow time, on the first floor of Moscow’s Lenkom theater on Malaya Dmitrovka, spreading over 100 square meters. It was put out at 4:40 a.m., the Moscow Fire Service reported. Russian agencies said that the club’s bartender was making a “fire show†and poured burning alcohol over himself. After this, a five-liter canister with alcohol ignited fire and soon half of the club was on fire.
About 150 visitors were evacuated.
Fourteen visitors suffered CO poisoning. Ten of them have died.
The incident will be probed on charges of violating fire safety regulations and destroying and damaging property through negligence, Moscow’s Prosecutor’s Office has said.
