China Unicom has signed an agreement with Russian Trans Telecom Company (TTC) for the two firms’ to build an overland Sino-Europe optical cable with bandwidth of 10G bits, the China Business news reported, citing Unicom sources.

It said China Unicom declined to give the amount of investment involved nor
the construction timetable. Under the agreement, China Unicom is expected to expand its business to Europe though TTC’s partners, the sources said.
They added that an overland optical cable can be repaired more conveniently
than an undersea line.
Earlier other media reports said China Unicom has signed cooperation agreements with seven international telecom operators to strengthen its CDMA and international rolling businesses.
