Dozens Detained in Georgian Tax Service Bribery Crackdown
Several dozens people were detained as Georgian law enforcers held a special operation against bribery in the country’s tax service, Russian news agency Interfax reported on Tuesday quoting a source in Georgian Interior Ministry.
“Workers of the tax service were detained at their workplaces. The special operation continues at present moment,†the agency quoted the source as saying. The Tax Service building was sealed off by Georgian police since Tuesday morning.
The Tax Service declined to comment on the report.
The RIA-Novosti news agency quoted Shota Khizanishvili, the head of Georgian Interior Ministry administration, as saying that the detained are suspected of taking bribes. The country’s prosecutor-general’s service is expected to make an official statement on the subject later on Tuesday.
