Two women from the United States have been taken to hospital in Moscow after being poisoned with thallium, the Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday.

“Two U.S. citizens, aged 42 and 26 years old, were admitted to the Sklifosovsky clinic on February 24. Doctors assessed their condition as moderately serious,” the Russian consumer rights watchdog’s (Rospotrebnadzor) branch for Moscow said in a press release.

The patients’ diagnosis was confirmed on February 28, it says. The women are receiving all the necessary medical treatment.

An investigation is underway.
