Russian law enforcement officers searched the offices of several computer companies Wednesday, including the Moscow headquarters of IBM Corp., apparently in connection with a graft investigation at the Russian Pension Fund, the Associated Press news agency reports.

“All that I can say now about the searches in the Moscow representative office is that we are cooperating with the Russian authorities in respect of the investigation into our business in Russia,” IBM official Jonathan Batty was quoted as saying by the RIA-Novosti agency. “So far it’s too early to talk about the nature of the investigation.”

Computer companies Lanit and R-Style also were searched, the agency said.

IBM officials could not be reached for comment.

In a statement carried by Interfax, R-Style said that the searches were connected with an investigation into illegal supplies of computers to the Russian Pension Fund in 2005-2006. The fund was targeted in a corruption investigation last month.

According to the statement the raids had been carried out by police investigators with support from OMON riot police.

Spokesmen for the prosecutor general’s office and Moscow police could not be reached immediately for comment.

A man who answered the telephone at R-Style said the company had “no problems,” before hanging up.
