Russia’s armed forces successfully test-launched an interceptor missile on Tuesday, news reports said.

The Space Forces launched the missile from the Sary-Shagan test range in Kazakhstan, the forces’ spokesman, Alexei Kuznetsov, told the Interfax news agency.

“The launch came as part of a program aimed at prolonging the service life of interceptor missiles. Preliminary information indicates the main characteristics of the missile have been confirmed,” he was quoted as saying.

The interceptor missiles are part of Russia’s missile defense system that was developed by a team under designer Grigory Kisunko and put on alert in central Russia.
