Scotland Yard Experts to Fly to Moscow to Seek Clues in Litvinenko Case
The Russian embassy in London has issued visas to Scotland Yard experts investigating the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko, Reuters news agency reported on Monday.
A foreign ministry spokesman has confirmed the fact of issuing visas effective from December 4. This was done according to London Police plan to send Scotland Yard investigators to Moscow.
It was reported that nine detectives might fly to Moscow Monday to speak to witnesses who met the former Russian FSB agent Litvinenko in London shortly before his death.
Litvinenko, a former agent of the Russian state security service, died in London after poisoning with radioactive polonium 210.
In the last public statement Litvinenko accused President Putin in his death. The Kremlin denies involvement and has promised full cooperation with the British investigation.
It is known that Litvinenko met two Russian citizens at London’s Millennium Hotel on November 1, the day he fell ill. Andrei Lugovoy, a former KGB agent, and businessman Dmitry Kovtun met Litvinenko to discuss a business opportunity as Lugovoy told newspapers.
Both Russians have since returned to Russia.
