FBI Joins Investigation of Russian Spy’s Death
The FBI has been asked to join the British investigation of the killing of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko, FBI spokesman Richard Kolko is quoted by the Associated Press.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s experts in weapons of mass destruction will assist with some of the scientific analysis, Kolko said.
Previously, the FBI had only been involved in informal consultations in the case, he said.
There is no suspected link to the U.S., he said.
“It’s not our case — it doesn’t involve American citizens and it didn’t happen on American soil,†Kolko said. “But when requested by other nations, we provide that assistance.â€
Former KGB agent turned Kremlin critic Alexander Litvinenko died in London November 23 of radioactive poisoning.
