AzAL (Azerbaijani Airlnes) turned down a flight of AN-140-100 passenger plane manufactured by Ukraine. Spokesman for the company Magerram Safarli made the announcement to reporters, the REGNUM agency reports.

According to the spokesman, AzAL refused totally to buy aircrafts from Ukraine and Russia. Since now on the state-run consortium will buy aircrafts manufactured by Western companies.

It worth mentioning, the reason for such refusal was a tragedy occurred on December 23, 2005: then, an AN-140-100 aircraft manufactured by Ukraine crashed into the Caspian Sea. At that moment, technical malfunctioning was cited as the cause of the crash.

As a result of the crash, 23 people were killed. They were citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Australia.
