Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Sunday that the United States has lifted sanctions on jet maker Sukhoi.
The news came after Russian President Vladimir Putin held a bilateral meeting with U.S. President George W. Bush after the conclusion of a Pacific Rim leaders’ summit.
“The issue has been discussed. Bush said that after additional investigation of the problem, it was decided to lift the sanctions from Sukhoi,†Lavrov said.
“We are still waiting for the decision on Rosoboronexport,†he said, referring to a Russian arms exporter also under U.S. sanctions.
The United States imposed the measures on the two companies for allegedly violating the U.S. Nonproliferation Act of 2000. The U.S. contended Russia violated the agreement by selling weapons to Iran, while Russia insisted all its weapons dealings were in line with international regulations.
