Russian women`s volleyball team has won the world championship title beating Brazil in the final match, the RIA-Novosti news agency reported on Thursday.

The final volleyball match of the women`s world championship in Japan ended with 3:2 to Russia. What maid the Russian women`s team to become the world champion for the first time.

“We started the game determined to win, but we still have not fully grasped that we really won,” said Yekaterina Gamova, a leading volleyball player.

Until now, the Russian team only reached third place in 1994, 1998 and 2002. The women’s team of the U.S.S.R. won volleyball world championships five times in 1952, 1956, 1960, 1970 and 1990.
