Chechnya’s law enforcement services have arrested Compensation Payments Commission Secretary Sultan Isakov, the Interfax news agency reported on Wednesday referring to the statement made by Chechnya’s Prosecutor Valery Kuznetsov.

“Isakov was arrested on Tuesday evening on suspicion of extorting bribes. He is being questioned,” the prosecutor said.

“A group, comprising bank employees, mediators and Isakov is suspected of having devised a criminal scheme for extorting bribes from persons, who apply for payments to be made in compensation for their lost homes and property,” he said.

“Isakov is suspected of freezing the applicants’ bank accounts,” the prosecutor said.
