Two people have died after being poisoned by counterfeit alcohol in the Irkutsk region over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll from alcohol poisoning in the area to 60.

Of the 1,685 people hospitalized with toxic hepatitis, 1,179 remain in hospital, a local emergency spokesman said.

Thirty-eight people have been hospitalized with alcohol poisoning over the past 24 hours, and 34 have been discharged from hospitals, he said.
