Russia is “seriously worried” by a new round of military escalation in the Middle East, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said.

Israeli troops entered the city of Beit Hanun in Gaza Strip. The operation caused loss of life among Palestinians and damage to residential houses.

According to Israeli statements, the operation was carried out in order to stop missile attacks on Israel by extremist Palestinian groups.

“Russia seriously worried by a new round of military escalation in the region,” Kamynin said. “We strongly urge all parties to show wisdom and restraint and stop confrontation.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the parties to the conflict “must reject the logic of force and look for solutions to problems in Palestinian-Israeli relations, including the release of Israeli Corporal Shalit, by peaceful political means”.

According to Kamynin, “The interests of both Israelis and Palestinian can be ensured only by resuming direct dialogue.”
