Moscow Mayor Orders Construction of Golf Club
Mayor Yuri Luzhkov has announced plans to develop a state-of-the-art golf club on the banks of the Moscow River in central Moscow, RIA reports.
The statement to the effect was made at the first international conference titled “The New Horizons of Russian Golf†on Monday. To that end, the Moscow city hall has allocated 100 hectares of land in the center of the city.
In the meantime, construction of a 27-hole golf course in northern Moscow is nearing completion. The locations of other nine golf clubs will be announced soon, Luzhkov said. He added that the city hall plans to hold a tender to select a contractor for development of golf courses across the capital. Foreign firms are welcome to participate in the bidding, he added.
Earlier the Moscow mayor said that Russians should learn to play golf. He is convinced that in the future the game will become a favorite pastime of many Russians.
